San Francisco Giants vs. Arizona Diamondbacks Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 5-12-2023

The San Francisco Giants and Arizona Diamondbacks will play Friday at Chase Field. First pitch is at 6:40 p.m. PT. The Giants are slight favorites and the game total is 9.5.

San Francisco (16-20 SU and 17-18-1 RL) will start 33-year-old Ross Stripling tomorrow. The right-hander is 0-2 with a 6.66 ERA and 1.52 WHIP in seven appearances (four starts) this season.

Arizona (20-17 SU and 19-16-2 RL) will start right-hander Ryne Nelson on Friday evening. The 25-year-old is 1-2 with a 6.00 ERA and 1.53 WHIP in seven outings this year.

The Giants are a puzzling team. They clearly have enough talent to compete for a Wild Card spot but are they going to underachieve again this season?

San Francisco scores 4.42 runs per game (14th) and hits .242 (17th) with a .747 OPS (11th). It's hit 58 home runs (4th) and stolen 22 bases (22nd) in 2023. 2B Thairo Estrada leads the team in hits (46) and batting average (.338), and 3B J.D. Davis paces the club in home runs (7) and RBI (20).  The Giants' pitching staff has a 4.46 ERA (19th) and a 1.35 WHIP (20th) with 14 quality starts.

Stripling will take the mound for San Francisco in the second game of the four-game set. He's making his fourth consecutive start for the visitors after making three relief appearances. In his last outing, Stripling surrendered five runs on seven hits, including two homers in a loss to Milwaukee.
