San Diego Padres vs. Toronto Blue Jays Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 7-19-2023

The San Diego Padres (44-50, 46-48 RL, 39-50-5 O/U) and the Toronto Blue Jays (53-41, 42-52 RL, 41-48-5 O/U) continue a three-game interleague series on Wednesday evening. The Padres will be sending Yu Darvish to the mound. The Blue Jays are giving the nod to Jose Berrios. This is the first meeting since the 2019 season.

Yu Darvish gets the nod on Wednesday. Darvish was brilliant in his previous start, limiting the Phillies to only one run in six innings and recorded the win. The veteran right-hander had a rough June and is having an inconsistent season. He has reported a 4.65 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP accompanied by a 6-6 record in 91 innings pitched on the season. Darvish has excellent numbers against the Jays, producing a stifling 2.68 ERA and a 3-3 record in eight meetings.

San Diego is near the end of a six-game road trek. They dropped three of four games in Philly on the weekend and are in need of a winning streak to get back in the wildcard picture. They are currently eight games out. The bats were productive in Philly, scoring 22 runs but the pitching, especially the bullpen, was an issue. The Padres are 6-4 in their last ten games.

Manny Machado is having an incredible month at the plate, bashing five homers with a remarkable 18 RBIs and a 1.3 OPS. The veteran third baseman now has 17 bombs with 51 RBIs and a .773 OPS on the year. Machado is 5 for 12 with one RBI in his career against Jose Berrios.

San Diego is scoring an average of 4.50 runs on the season, ranking them 16th. The pitching is a strength, amassing a 3.84 team ERA, placing them eighth in the big leagues.
