San Diego Padres vs. Seattle Mariners Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 9-13-2022

The San Diego Padres (77-64, 61-80 RL, 68-69-4 O/U) take on the Seattle Mariners (79-61, 75-64 RL  65-67-7 O/U) in the first of a mini two-game series on Tuesday evening. The Padres give the nod to Yu Darvish. The Mariners reply with Logan Gilbert seeking a third straight win. The Mariners lead the season series 2-0.

Yu Darvish will make his 27th start of the season in the series opener. Darvish was decent in his latest outing, conceding three runs on three homers in six innings against the Diamondbacks, and registered the win to lift his record to 13-7. The veteran right-hander has allowed three or fewer runs in four consecutive outings and enters with a 3.31 ERA and a 0.98 WHIP in 168.2 innings pitched. Darvish is 6-4 with a 4.19 ERA in 81.2 career innings against the Mariners. 

San Diego recently won three games in a row including a victory against the Dodgers but then lost the series' final two games against the rivals and are 5-5 in their last ten games. The Padres are in decent shape, holding the last NL Wildcard however the Brewers are only two games back. 

Juan S oto has been a huge disappointment since joining the Padres. The 22-year-old slugger is hitting an abysmal .107 this month with zero RBIs. He has 24 homers, 52 RBIs, and an .852 OPS on the season. Soto has two homers and four RBIs against the Mariners this season.

The Padres are scoring an average of 4.40 runs per game, ranking them 15th overall. The pitching staff has logged a 3.96 team ERA, placing them 17th in the big leagues.
