San Diego Padres vs. Philadelphia Phillies Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 10-23-2022

San Diego will try to keep its season alive when it faces Philadelphia in Game 5 of the NLCS on Sunday afternoon. The Padres have lost the last two games in the series, including a 10-6 final on Saturday. They took a 4-0 lead in the first inning, but their pitching did not hold up against the Phillies lineup.

San Diego had already bounced back from a loss once in this series, and it looked like the Padres were going to respond again after losing Game 3 on Friday night. They raced out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning of Game 4, including a home run from star third baseman Manny Machado. San Diego proceeded to allow three runs in the bottom of the first and another one in the fourth inning to tie the game. The Padres went back in front on a two-run homer from Juan Soto in the fifth before immediately allowing four runs in the bottom half of the frame. They will now be tasked with keeping their season alive on Sunday.

Right-handed pitcher Yu Darvish is going to be on the mound for San Diego on Sunday afternoon. He allowed two runs on three hits while striking out seven in the 2-0 loss in Game 1 of this series. Darvish held Philadelphia to a 3 of 24 day at the plate, but two of those hits were solo home runs. He has allowed six earned runs across three starts this postseason, with all six runs coming on solo homers. Darvish still has a 2.84 ERA in the playoffs, striking out 18 batters across 19 innings. He is now 2-1 with a 2.23 ERA and 55 strikeouts in seven career appearances against Philadelphia.
