It’s a win or go home contest in the National League Division Series as a pair of NL West rivals continue their series in the City of Angels. The San Diego Padres are on the road for a winner take all Game 5 of their series with the Los Angeles Dodgers Sunday night, if necessary. These teams split the first two games of the set in the City of Angels with the Dodgers prevailing 5-3 in the series opener Tuesday night before the Padres answered with a similar 5-3 triumph in Game 2 of the series on Wednesday night. San Diego picked up a 2-1 win in Game 3 at home Friday night to take a 2-1 series lead and had a chance to close things out at home in Game 4 Saturday night. This article was published prior to the conclusion of Game 4 at Petco Park.

San Diego won a low-scoring affair in Game 3 of the series to take a 2-1 series lead and had an opportunity to win the series outright Saturday night with Joe Musgrove on the hill. The Padres have two shots at winning the series with Game 4 Saturday night and this potential Game 5 at Dodger Stadium. In Game 3 Friday night, San Diego got two hits each from Austin Nola, Jake Cronenworth (RBI) and Trent Grisham (run, RBI) in the contest. Grisham hit his third homer of the playoffs in the victory for the Padres. Blake Snell (1-1) earned the win on the mound as he threw 5.1 innings, allowing one run on five hits with two walks and six strikeouts. Josh Hader worked a scoreless ninth, striking out two, to earn his second save of the postseason.

It's not official yet as this game may not be necessary but the expectation is that Mike Clevinger would take the ball for his second postseason start for the P adres after logging 23 regular season appearances, 22 starts, on the year. He was 7-7 with a 4.33 ERA, a 1.198 WHIP, 35 walks and 91 strikeouts over 114.1 innings of work this season. In the postseason, he is 0-1 with a 13.50 ERA, a 3.00 WHIP, two walks and three strikeouts. Clevinger took the loss in his last start, which came in Game 1 of the NL Division Series on the road against the Dodgers Tuesday night. He threw 2.2 innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits with two walks and three strikeouts in a game the Padres lost by a 5-3 score. In his last three starts, Clevinger is 1-1 with a 7.10 ERA, a 1.579 WHIP, three walks and eight strikeouts over 12.2 innings of work. Clevinger makes his fifth career start against the Dodgers in this contest. He is 0-3 with a 10.34 ERA, a 1.789 WHIP, six walks and 14 strikeouts over 15.2 innings of work against them. Clevinger is 0-3 with an 11.81 ERA, a 2.062 WHIP, five walks and 10 strikeouts over 10.2 innings in three career starts at Dodger Stadium.
