San Diego dropped their fourth straight game as they were dropped in the finale of a short interleague road set with the Mariners Wednesday night. The Padres entered Friday night 55-60 on the season and stood fourth in the NL West, 13.5 games behind the Dodgers for the top spot. They were 4.5 games behind the Marlins for the final wild card spot in the National League. On Wednesday, San Diego finished with just four hits with Luis Campusano the lone player with two. The Padres were a dismal zero for nine with runners in scoring position in the loss. Yu Darvish pitched well, allowing one run (none earned) on six hits with two walks and four strikeouts over six innings, but didn’t factor in the decision. Steven Wilson (1-1) took the loss as he allowed four runs on two hits with one walk and one strikeout in two-thirds of an inning in relief.

Rich Hill takes the ball for the Padres as he logs hi s 24th start of the season overall and his second with the Padres in this contest. He comes in 7-11 with a 5.09 ERA, a 1.484 WHIP, 48 walks and 108 strikeouts over 122 innings of work this season. Hill took the loss in his last start, which came Sunday in his San Diego debut at home against the Dodgers. He threw three innings, allowing six runs on four hits with one walk and four strikeouts in a game the Padres lost 8-2. In his last three starts, Hill is 0-2 with a 7.00 ERA, a 1.72 WHIP, seven walks and 15 strikeouts over 18 innings of work. Hill makes his 14th career start against the Diamondbacks in this contest. He is 1-8 with a 6.18 ERA, a 1.388 WHIP, 22 walks and 69 strikeouts over 67 innings of work against them.
