San Antonio will get another shot at taking down Memphis when the Western Conference foes square off on Wednesday night. The Spurs came up short against the Grizzlies on Monday, as Memphis picked up a 121-113 win. San Antonio was able to stay within the 11-point spread in a game that landed exactly on the total of 234.
San Antonio got off to a 5-2 start this season, but the Spurs have regressed to the level that people thought they would play at this year. They lost 16 of their next 17 games after the hot start to the campaign, including an overtime loss to Memphis on Nov. 9. Their only other winning streak this season came in the middle of December, as they beat Houston, Miami and Cleveland in consecutive games. They have not strung together back-to-back wins since then, and their loss to Memphis on Monday was their fifth in a six-game stretch. San Antonio trailed by 11 points at halftime before staging several late rallies that ultimately came up short.

The Spurs were playing without leading scorer Keldon Johnson (hamstring) for the second straight game and have now lost six road games in a row. Tre Jones stepped up with a team-high 18 points and seven assists on Monday, while Josh Richardson added 16 points. Johnson, who leads the Spurs with 21.2 points and 4.8 rebounds per game, is listed as a game-time decision for this contest. Shooting guard Devin Vassell is the team’s second-leading scorer, but he is sidelined due to a knee injury. San Antonio is No. 22 in the NBA offensively (112.0) and is facing a Memphis defense that is No. 11 (111.3).
