The Atlanta Hawks hope to move up in the Eastern Conference standings Saturday as they host the San Antonio Spurs. The Hawks are 28-28 on the season while the Spurs have one of the worst records in the NBA. This is their first matchup this season. Last year they split two games. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m. EST at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta.
The San Antonio Spurs are just having a season they'd rather forget. And they are clearly in a race to the bottom, hoping to win the Victor Webmanyama sweepstakes. That became evident as they traded away one of their best players, Jakob Poetl, to the Raptors for Khem Birch, a 2024 first-round pick, and two second-round picks.

They also picked up Dewayne Dedmon from the Heat for cash and a future second rounder. In addition, they shipped out Josh Richardson to the Pelicans for Devonte Graham and four second round picks. So they are loading up on draft picks, and few teams in recent history have been better at finding good second round picks than the Spurs. But the hope is to lan d that big one, the top pick, in the upcoming NBA draft.
