The Rutgers Scarlet Knights and Boston College Eagles face off on Saturday in a college football Week 1 showdown at BC Alumni Stadium.
Rutgers finished last season with a 5-8 record overall and they hope this season they can take a step forward with Greg Schiano in charge. Last season the offense really struggled on third downs, and that led to the defeat. Rutgers hasn’t announced a starter for the season yet, but it’s expected to be quarterback Noah Vedral that starts under center. Last season he threw for 1,813 yards, seven touchdowns, and seven picks. The offensive line struggled last season, and that will need to be better. Last season the defense gave up close to 400 yards and that will also need to be better.
On the other side of this matchup is the Boston College Eagles and they finished last season with a 6-6 record. The offense wasn’t great through the air last season, but they were also without their starting quarterback and that really hurt their chances. Phil Jurkovec is healthy and he should be a difference maker for the passing game. The offensive line is going to need to be improved this season, and if that does happen, this is a team that could make some real noise in the ACC. On defense, Boston College is led by the front seven, and in this game, they need to put pressure on Vedral.
