It’s a battle of programs from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference on the hardwood as a pair of teams looking to put one in the win column do battle in the Nutmeg State. The Rider Broncs are on the road as they travel up into the New England area to take on the Fairfield Stags Thursday night. Rider comes in off a 94-93 loss to Iona in their previous game Sunday on the road, though they did cover the line as a 6.5-point underdog. Fairfield downed Manhattan 77-68 at home Sunday in their previous game, failing to cover the line as a 9.5-point favorite. In the all-time series between the teams, the Broncs own a 30-28 advantage but it was the Stags earning an 88-81 win on the road in the first meeting this season on December 3, 2023.

Rider saw their three-game win streak snapped as their late rally against Iona ended up falling just short. The Broncs fell to 8-14 overall and stood tied for seventh in the MAAC with a 5-6 mark in conference play. Against Iona, Rider led by as many as seven in the first half and trailed by as many as eight before going to intermission tied at 38. In the second half, the Broncs gave up a 15-2 run to start the second half to trail by 13. Rider was down as many as 24 with 8:21 to play before mounting a rally. The Broncs still trailed by eight with 32 seconds to play and got within one before running out of time. Rider shot 45.9% from the field, including 10 of 24 from three-point range, and dominated the boards 47-28 yet fell short. DJ Dudley had 28 points off the bench in the loss to lead the Broncs.

The Broncs put up an average of 72.9 points per game this season, which is 216th in the nation in scoring offense. Rider pulls down 39.5 rebounds per game this season while dishing out 12.8 assists per contest. The Broncs struggle on the defensive end as they are 264th in scoring defense by allowing 74.9 points per night. Mervin James is one of three players averaging in double figures for Rider as he averages 19.2 points plus 6.5 rebounds. Corey McKeithan chips in 8.1 points plus 4.2 rebounds a night for the Broncs. T.J. Weeks Jr. (10.5 points, 6.5 rebounds), Allen Powell (10.2 points), DJ Dudley, Tariq Ingraham, JT Langston Jr., Ruben Rodriguez, Tyriek Weeks, Ife West-Ingram and Anthony McCall all have to contribute for coach Kevin Baggett. Rider shoots 42.2% from the field as a team this season. The Broncs hit 5.9 three-pointers a game while shooting 32.7% from beyond the arc.
