The Richmond Spiders return to the hardwood after a holiday break over Thanksgiving following their participation in the Empire Classic. After losing in overtime to Syracuse in the opener, the Spiders came back to oust Temple 61-49 in the consolation game. Richmond, of course, was familiar with Temple after many years of competing against the Owls in the Atlantic 10. The Spiders were expecting a defensive-minded contest with Temple and the game didn't disappoint. The Spiders held Temple to a season-low 49 points with a dominating full-court defense that forced 16 turnovers. Tyler. Burton led Richmond with 18 points in the game but he knew that defense was the name of this game.

“Playing full-court defense helps you keep that aggression going,” said Tyler Burton, who had two blocks as well. “It helps keep the team energized and make sure that we're not getting complacent with little leads, like seven-point lead s or eight-point leads especially with five to six minutes left on the clock where teams can close that gap super quick. The full court defense is really helpful in that it keeps us attacking the whole game.”

Richmond is scoring 68 points per game but, even more impressively, are holding the opposition to just 62 points per game. They are shooting 42% from the field but teams are shooting just 38% against Richmond's stellar defense. Richmond is turning the ball over 13 times per game while only forcing 11 per game. Richmond is averaging over 37 rebounds per game for a +2.7 advantage.
