Another season in European football and another year where Manchester City are lined at the Champions League favorite. Pep Guardiola’s side has seemingly invented new ways to get knocked out of Europe’s elite competition every year.

In 2019, Spurs took them out after a VAR decision in the quarterfinal. In 2020, Lyon crushed them in transition and outscored them. City made the final in 2021 but couldn’t create anything against Chelsea’s elite defense in the final. Last year, Real Madrid pulled off a miraculous comeback deep into the second leg – City totally collapsed in the final 45 minutes of the tie.

The Cityzens are huge favorites to advance to the quarterfinals, but RB Leipzig will not be a pushover. City beat them 6-3 in the group stage last season, but both teams have changed quite a bit since then. Leipzig have gone through two managers in that time frame and City have changed a good amount of their squad.

Manchester City may well advance at home in Manchester in a month, but in my view, they’re overvalued as a road favorite in this first leg on Wednesday.
