The Purdue Boilermakers began the season near the bottom of the Top-25 rankings as many preseason experts assumed that the Boilermakers would have to adjust to life without several key pieces from last year's 30-win team. Instead, the Boilermakers have now won their first nine games of the season and have moved up to #4 in the polls. On Wednesday night, Purdue won their 9th straight game with an 85-66 win over Hofstra in front of a sellout crowd at home. It is the first time the team has started the season 9-0 since going 11-0 to start the season in 2015-16. It also marked the 20th straight non-conference regular season win for Purdue, the longest streak in the nation. Big man Zach Edey had his seventh double-double of the season with 23 points and 18 rebounds. Purdue is now 17-2 when Edey records a double-double in his career. Edey has also now scored 20 or more points in eight straight games.

“We had the same tu rnovers, they shot the ball pretty well, we shot the ball pretty well and did some things. Obviously, we go to the free-throw line more, but we're going to do that with Zach [Edey] down there. Just our ability to rebound, our ability to get it inside. We had some really good looks that didn't go down for us, so that's what we just gotta keep doing. There's no doubt that was a big part of the game.” Purdue head coach Matt Painter said after the win.

Purdue is averaging just over 77 points per game this season while holding the opposition to just under 61 points per game. They are shooting 46% from the floor overall and 33% from three-point range. The Boilermakers are holding teams to just 37% shooting overall and a frosty 24% from long range. With Edey in the post, it is not surprising to see that Purdue has a 17-8 free throws made per game advantage. They also dominating the glass with a 42.6 to 31.3 rebounding edge. Purdue also averages nearly five assists more per game than the opposition. Purdue is a bit sloppy, averaging one more turnover, 11.3, than the opposition.
