Puerto Rico easily disposed of both Nicaragua (9-1) and Israel (10-0) with a 9-6 defeat at t he hands of Venezuela in between. PR had a day off on Tuesday while the Dominican Republic beat up on Israel for a 10-0 win.
Outside of that mercy-rule defeat of Israel, however, the Dominican Republic has struggled a bit. The DR scored just one run in its first game, a 5-1 loss to Venezuela, and mustered a modest six runs against a weak Nicaragua team.

This should be a close game despite the difference in experience on the mound. Twenty-four-year-old Dominic Hamel, who hasn't pitched above High-A ball is starting for Puerto Rico against MLB veteran Johnny Cueto for the Dominican Republic. Neither pitcher has yet to throw yet in the WBC, but Cueto allowed 11 runs over just 3 2/3 innings in his spring training tune-up games for the Miami Marlins.
The Dominican Republic's lineup is one of the best you&# 39;ll ever see but Puerto Rico is solid as well with Francisco Lindor, Javier Baez, and Enrique Hernandez leading the way. They should be able to keep it within two runs on Wednesday.
