Two long-time Big East participants will do battle on Sunday afternoon when the Providence College Friars travel to DC to take on the Georgetown Hoyas. Providence has a record of 20-8 overall and 12-5 in the Big East. The Hoyas continue through a troublesome season that has the team at 7-22 overall and 2-16 in conference play. With just three games left and two games back in the loss column, it is unlikely that the Providence Friars will repeat as the Big East regular season champs this season. Still, even with a nearly new rotation, the Friars are once again primed for an NCAA Tournament invite and a strong showing in the Big East Tournament. On Wednesday night, however, the 20th-ranked Friars had a two-game winning streak snapped with an 87-69 loss to #18 UConn on the road. Bryce Hopkins led Providence with 16 points while Jared Bynum added 14 points and Noah Locke chipped in with 11 points. The Friars shot just 41% from the field and were doubled up on the glass by UConn, 40-20.

Providence has already reached the 20-win plateau for the second straight season and now will try to strengthen seeding position over the last three games and the Big East Tournament. The Friars are third in the Big East in scoring offense this season. They are fourth in field goal percentage and fifth in 3pt offense in the conference. On the defensive end, the Friars are sixth in scoring defense and fourth in opponent's field goal percentage. Providence has the third best 3pt defense in the Big East. On the glass, Providence is third in rebounding.
