The Providence College Friars have seemingly picked up where they left off last season. Last season, the Friars won their first ever regular season Big East title and, with a mostly new cast this year, have started out 6-0 in Big East play. Overall, Providence has now won nine straight games. On Saturday, Providence was able to hold off St. John's at home by a score of 83-80. Noah Locke led the way with 20 points, including a season-high five 3pt field goals. They are now alone in first place in the Big East and the nine straight wins is the program's longest winning streak since 1989.

“Our players grew up with respect to how to deal with adversity today,” Head Coach Ed Cooley said. “We were a little out of sorts without Jared [Bynum]. I tell our players to trust what we're doing and believe in each other. It's a long game, and we always want to be there at the end.”

Providence has come out of the gates flying this season, particularly on the offensive end. The Friars are ranked 21st in the nation in scoring and 113th in 3pt shooting. The Friars can be a bit sloppy with the basketball, ranking 205th in turnovers. On the defensive side of the ball, Providence is 125th in scoring defense and 105th against the 3pt shot. The Friars pound the glass, ranked 11th in rebounding.
