OK, I can understand drawing at Anfield. For all of their faults this season, Liverpool have still been superb at home. But a draw at 15th-place West Ham – who were actually right on the cusp of relegation just two games ago – after going up 2-0 in the 10th minute is unfathomable.
Arsenal now return home to face the literal worst team in the Premier League, Southampton. The Gunners desperately need these three points ahead of their monumental Matchday 33 clash with Man chester City. What can go wrong?
Southampton sit 20th in the league, and for good reason. They've scored the fewest goals (24 in 31 matches) on the fewest expected goals (29.2). The club has been slightly better away (0.87 points per match) than at home (0.63 points per match), but the Saints have truly been pitiful regardless of where they play.
For their part, Arsenal have conceded 18 goals at home this season on just 15.0 expected goals against, so they're due for some positive regression in that regard. They have some injuries at the back but should still be able to handle the Saints' meager attack. Southampton have managed the fewest xG away from home and the third-fewest goals at opposing stadiums.
If Arsenal blow this one, just hand City the trophy now.
