It’s an interconference matchup on the hardwood as a pair of teams do battle down in South Beach. The Portland Trail Blazers make the long, cross-country trip as they travel to face the Miami Heat Monday night. Portland split a two-game road set at Phoenix as they were drubbed soundly 102-82 on Saturday night, failing to cover as a 12-point underdog. Miami came up on the short end of a 101-99 score against the Pacers on the road, losing outright as a three-point favorite Friday night in their previous contest. In the all-time regular season series between the teams, the Trail Blazers own a 41-27 advantage but the Heat have won the last four meetings, including a 119-98 road victory in the first meeting this season on October 26.

Portland couldn’t build off their win over Phoenix in the first game of their two-game road set as they were obliterated Saturday night. The Trail Blazers entered Sunday 6-3 on the season and tied for second in the Northwest Division with Denver, half a game behind the Jazz for the top spot. Against Phoenix, Portland was handled by halftime as they trailed by nine after the opening quarter before getting outscored 26-14 in the second to trail by 21 at the half. The Trail Blazers couldn’t get closer than 16 in the second half as they were handled by Phoenix’s depth. Portland shot only 38% from the floor, including seven of 15 from three-point range, and turned the ball over 17 times in the loss. Jerami Grant led the Trail Blazers with 14 points in the defeat.

On the year, the Trail Blazers are 24th in the league in scoring offense with 109.8 points per game. Portland i s tied for 16th in rebounding with 44.4 boards a contest and 25th in assists as they hand out 22.8 assists per game this season. The Trail Blazers are 7th in scoring defense by allowing 109.1 points per night. Damian Lillard leads the Trail Blazers this season with 31 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game in the early going. Anfernee Simons contributes 22 points a night while Jerami Grant chips in 17.9 points and four rebounds a night. Jusuf Nurkic (14 points, 11.2 rebounds) is averaging in double figures as well. Josh Hart, Justise Winslow, Shaedon Sharpe, Nassir Little, Keon Johnson, Trendon Watford and Drew Eubanks have been a part of the Trail Blazers’ rotation in the early going this season. Portland is 19th in the league in field goal percentage as they shoot 46.3% from the field as a team this season. The Trail Blazers are 21st in the league in threes per game as they hit 11.3 triples per game and are 6th in three-point percentage as they hit 38.9% from beyond the arc.

Lillard (calf) has been out since October 26 and hopes to return during this six-game road trip though it’s unclear if this will be his return date. Gary Payton II (abdomen) is expected to be out until November 15 at the earliest while Olivier Sarr (wrist) will be reevaluated in late November or early December. Simons (foot) has been out since November 2 and is considered day-to-day.
