Portland at St. Mary's – 1/7/23 College Basketball Picks and Prediction

The Portland Pilots and Saint Mary’s Gaels face off on Saturday in a college basketball showdown at McKeon Pavillion. When these two teams faced off last February it was Saint Mary’s that secured the 75-54 victory. 

Portland comes into this game with an 8-9 record overall and they have gone 7-8 against the spread. In the last game against BYU the offense really struggled scoring only 58 points and they lost by 13 points. Portland is averaging 77.6 points while their defense is giving up 73.3 points per game. The defense has been an issue this season and is ranked 285th in college basketball. Guard Tyler Robertson is averaging 14.8 points while shooting 40.3 percent from the field and 31.5 percent from behind the three point line. 

On the other side of this matchup is Saint Mary’s who sits with a 13-4 record and they have gone 9-6-1 against the spread. In the last game against the Academy of Art, it was Saint Mary’s that secured the 84-64 victory. Aidan Mahaney scored 19 points to pace Saint Mary’s. The Gales are averaging 70.4 points while their defense is giving up 58.2 points per game. The defense is 10th best in college basketball. Aidan Mahaney is averaging 14.2 points while shooting 44.6 percent from the field and 41.3 percent from behind the three point line. In this game it's going to be important again that the defense steps up. If that happens this will be another easy win.
