Pittsburgh Pirates vs. St. Louis Cardinals Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 4-16-2023

Pittsburgh will wrap up its four-game trip to St. Louis on Sunday afternoon. The Pirates opened the series with a 5-0 win on Thursday, and they added a win in 10 innings on Saturday. St. Louis won Friday night's meeting between these teams and will try to salvage a series split.

Pittsburgh opened the season with five wins in its first seven games after putting together a disastrous 2022 campaign. The Pirates have alternated between wins and losses in their eight games since then, losing two out of three against Houston earlier this week. They opened this series with a 5-0 win at St. Louis on Thursday before adding Saturday's win in extra innings. Pittsburgh has struggled to get things going offensively this season, ranked No. 25 in team batting average (.232). Left fielder Bryan Reynolds leads Pittsburgh with a .333 average and 14 RBI, hitting five home runs—he has already driven in 14 runs.

Right-handed pitcher Mitch Keller will be on the mound for Pittsburgh on Sunday afternoon. He allowed four earned runs on six hits across 4.2 innings while striking out eight batters against Cincinnati on Opening Day. Keller bounced back with a terrific outing against Boston in his second outing, giving up one earned run on four hits in seven innings while striking out seven. He then gave up two earned runs on six hits across six innings against defending champion Houston earlier this week. Keller is 1-0 with a 3.57 ERA in his three starts this season after going 5-12 with a 3.91 ERA last year.
