Pittsburgh Pirates vs. San Francisco Giants Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 5-31-2023

The Pittsburgh Pirates (26-27, 27-26 RL, 25-26-2 O/U) and the San Francisco Giants (28-26, 28-26 RL, 25-27-2 O/U) conclude a three-game series on Wednesday afternoon. The Pirates will send Mitch Keller to the mound. The Giants give the call to Alex Wood. The Giants recorded a 14-4 win on Monday.

Mitch Keller will be on the hill on Wednesday. Keller is looking to rebound from his worst start of the season, conceding six runs including two home runs in six innings against the Mariners. He benefited from run support and was awarded the win. The right-hander has developed into an ace, allowing two or fewer runs in all but three outings, and is sporting a 3.01 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP accompanied by a 6-1 record in 68.2 innings. Keller held the Giants to two runs (one earned) in six innings last season and is 0-2 with a 3.50 ERA in four career meetings spanning 16 innings.

Pittsburgh is concluding a six-game road trip in this one. They enjoyed an excellent opening month but have struggled since. It’s been a rough few weeks, losing three consecutive series after dropping two of three bouts in Seattle on the weekend as the bats have definitely cooled down. The Pirates are only 3-7 in their last ten games.

Jack Suwinski is swinging a hot bat, delivering four homers with five RBIs in his last four games. The 24-year-old only has a .746 OPS this month but has 11 homers with 28 RBIs and a solid .874 OPS on the season. Suwinski is 1 for 3 in his career against Giants’ starter Alex Wood.

The Pirates are scoring an average of 4.34 runs on the year, ranking them 20th. The pitching is their top strength, amassing a 4.04 team ERA, placing them 13th.
