The Pittsburgh Penguins face the Toronto Maple Leafs with with both teams looking to improve on promising seasons. The Penguins have a 13-12-3 record which is second-worst in the Metropolitan Division but they have won back-to-back games. The Maple Leafs have a 15-6-6 record and are tied for second place in the Atlantic Division. Both teams look to improve in the Eastern Conference and the upcoming game looks to be a great one.

The Penguins are having a rough season with their offense letting them down, scoring only 2.93 goals per game. Sidney Crosby, Jake Guentzel, and Evgeni Malkin have scored 40 goals and 47 assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense has struggled. Only four skaters have eight goals or more and opponents can limit the top-heavy offense as a result.

The offense has struggled but the defense has kept the Penguins competitive, allowing only 2.61 goals per game with only five goals in the last two games. Erik Karlsson and Marcus Pettersson have combined for 4.5 defensive point shares but the 77 blocked shots while Kris Letang and Ryan Graves have combined for 3.8 defensive point shares to add depth to the unit. In addition, goaltender Tristan Jarry has been great with a .917 save percentage and a 2.46 goals-against average on 593 shots with 8.1 goals saved above average.
