The Pittsburgh Penguins face the Florida Panthers with both teams looking to improve in the Eastern Conference playoff picture. The Penguins have a 31-21-9 record and with four wins in a row hold the first wild card spot in the Eastern Conference. The Panthers have a 30-27-6 record and are only a few points out of a playoff spot. The Penguins are having a great season with their offense stepping up and scoring 3.26 goals per game including 19 goals in the last four games. Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Jake Guentzel have scored 74 goals and 114 assists to lead the top two lines but the entire offense has stepped up. Rickard Rakell, Jason Zucker, and Bryan Rust have combined for 55 goals and 61 assists while defensemen Kris Letang and Jeff Petry have added 12 goals and 40 assists from the point to open up the offense.
The offense has been great but the defense has struggled, allowing 3.18 goals per game. Marcus Petterson and Jeff Petry have combined for 5.1 defensive point shares but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to carry the puck into the offensive zone and easily find open shots on the net. The one bright spot has been the play of goaltender Tristan Jarry who has a .916 save percentage and a 2.77 goals-against average on 1029 shots with 11.5 goals saved above average.
