Pittsburgh Panthers Bowl Game History (Wins, Appearances and All-Time Record)

Bowl game season is underway after an exciting 2022 college football campaign. One successful program taking part in the postseason once again is the Pittsburgh Panthers, who will face UCLA in the Sun Bowl on Friday, Dec. 30.

Here's every thing you need to know about Pittsburgh's bowl game history before making its next appearance.

Pittsburgh Bowl Game History

College football fans shouldn't be shocked to find out Pittsburgh has built a compelling bowl game history. The Panthers are set to make a bowl game appearance for the fourth time in the last five years and have played in a total of 36 bowl games prior to the Sun Bowl on Friday afternoon.

Pittsburgh's first bowl appearance came in the 1927 Rose Bowl under head coach Jock Sutherland. The Panthers fell just short in a 7-6 loss to Stanford and their first bowl win did not come until nine years later. They took down the Washington Huskies by a score of 21-0 in the 1936 Rose Bowl.

The Panthers' most recent bowl appearance came in last year's Peach Bowl under the guidance of head coach Pat Narduzzi. Pittsburgh couldn't up in a 31-21 loss to Michigan State and has dropped five of its last six bowl games. It will look to buck that trend in front of the El Paso crowd.
