Pitcher Prop Prediction 1: Charlie Morton Under 17.5 Outs (-130)
Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Charlie Morton is having an outstanding 2023 campaign with a 10-7 record, 3.36 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 119 strikeouts across 109.1 innings of work. However, he has struggled to get past six innings consistently, falling short in 6 of his last 8 games and 11 of 19 games on the season (58%).
This includes a start against the Boston Red Sox on May 9th where he pitched six innings exactly while allowing two runs on five hits. It makes sense considering current Red Sox slugger’s bat .267 against him with five home runs across 122 plate appearances. Key hitters have thrived against him including Justin Turner 7-24 two home runs, Alex Verdugo 5-10 three doubles and Rafael Devers 8-34 two doubles.
The Braves bullpen had the day off yesterday after a light day of work on Sunday, so look for a quick hook if Morton gets into a middle inning jam.
Pitcher Prop Prediction 2: George Kirby Over 17.5 Outs (-140) DK
Seattle Mariners starting pitcher George Kirby is the new Iron Man, pitching a minimum of six innings in 15 of his 19 (79%) starts this season. He has been even better away from home where he eclipsed this line in 8 of 9 games on the season, only falling short with an 11-out performance against the San Diego Padres in May.
His longevity hasn’t helped his 9-8 record, but he does have a low 3.23 ERA & 1.04 WHIP with 103 strikeouts across 119.2 innings of work. Kirby dominated the Minnesota Twins in his last outing on July 20th with seven scoreless innings while allowing only four hits and striking out 10. Current Twins bat only .214 against Kirby with no home runs across 28 plate appearances.
The M’s bullpen didn’t have yesterday off and have needed to utilize 3+ arms in four straight games. Look for them to lean heavily on their workhorse to take some pressure of the pen.
