Phoenix was knocked off by New Orleans in the front game of this two-game set to lose their third straight and fourth in the last five games. The Suns entered Saturday holding a narrow one-game lead over the Kings in the Pacific Division. Against New Orleans, Phoenix led by one after the opening quarter, trailed by three at the half and was down 14 midway through the third quarter. The Suns were down 13 after three quarters only to rally to lead 108-107 with 4:28 to play in the game. Phoenix seemed to run out of steam after that as they were outscored 21-9 the rest of the way to take the loss. The Suns shot 50% from the field, including 22 of 44 from three-point range, but turned the ball over 16 times in the loss. Deandre Ayton led the Suns with 25 points and 14 rebounds in the loss.

The Suns enter this contest 7th in the league in scoring offense as they average 115.8 points per game on the year. Phoenix stands 15th in rebounding with an average of 43.2 boards per contest while they are 5th by dishing out an average of 27.4 assists per contest. The Suns are 10th in the league in scoring defense as they allow an average of 110.6 points per game this season. Devin Booker leads the team with 27.4 points plus 5.8 assists per game this season. Cameron Johnson (13 points), Mikal Bridges (15.3 points, 5.1 rebounds), Chris Paul (10.3 points, 8.8 assists), Deandre Ayton (17 points, 9.7 rebounds) and Cameron Payne (12.7 points, 5.6 assists) are good offensive weapons. Jock Landale, Landry Shamet, Torrey Craig, Damion Lee, Bismack Biyombo, Duane Washington Jr., Dario Saric and Josh Okogie are solid contributors in the rotation. Phoenix is 9th in field goal percentage by shooting 47.7% from the floor as a team on the year. The Suns are 8th as they knock down an average of 13 three-pointers a night while the team is 3 rd as they splash 38.5% of their attempts from beyond the arc this season.

Johnson (knee) had surgery after getting injured against Portland November 4. He is expected to miss one to two months, so mid-December is probably the best-case scenario for his return. Washington Jr. (hip) missed Friday’s game and is considered day-to-day so watch for updates on his status.
