After their bullpen game did not go to plan in Game 1, the Philadelphia Phillies are now able to bring in the big guns by turning to their ace, Zack Wheeler.
Wheeler has been one of the best pitchers in baseball as he holds a 2.19 ERA since May. The strength of the Phillies team has been its starting rotation, with Wheeler leading the way at the top. That is why Philadelphia was a buyer at the MLB trade deadline.
The Phillies made subtle improvements to the rest of their squad and are now ready to make one more playoff push. That push has to start today as the Phillies enter Wednesday’s game 10 games out of first in the NL East.
One team in front of Philly in the standings is the Atlanta Braves. Atlanta used the deadline to further sharpen their iron, which has been its pitching staff. The Braves acquired starter Jake Odorizzi to shore up the back end of the rotation, and the team acquired Rasiel Iglesias to be another lights-out option in the bullpen.
