Philadelphia Phillies vs. San Francisco Giants Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 5-15-2023

The surging Philadelphia Phillies continue their West Coast road trip as they head to San Francisco to take on the Giants on Monday night. The Phillies have surged over .500 and are starting to look like the team that won the NLCS in 2022. Meanwhile, the Giants have slipped down to fourth place in the NL West Division. The pitching matchup for Monday night will be a pair of left-handers as the Phillies' Bailey Falter (0-6, 5.75) takes on the Giants' Alex Wood (0-0, 2.45). The first pitch is scheduled for 9:45 PM EST.

The Philadelphia Phillies seem to be hitting their stride once again, not surprisingly coinciding with the return of former MVP Bryce Harper. Harper and the Phillies reeled off five straight wins heading into Sunday's series finale in Colorado. Harper hit .350 with one home run, four RBI, and slugged .600 during that stretch. On Sunday, the Phillies' five game streak came to an end in a 4-0 loss to the Rockies. Harper was ejected after charging the Rockies' bench in the third inning. The Phillies had just seven hits in the loss.

The Phillies hope to see improvement from lefty Bailey Falter in the series opener vs. the Giants. Thus far, Falter is winless in seven starts with six losses and an ERA of 5.75. He has allowed 42 hits in 36 innings and had a K/9 ratio of just 6.5. On the road, Falter is 0-4 in four starts with a 5.91 ERA and has allowed 26 hits in 21 innings pitched and his K/9 rate drops to 5.5. The lanky left-hander has had some bad luck as his percentage are respectable. He has a hard-hit percentage of 39.5 and has kept his walk percentage reasonable at 5.2%. He has had difficulty putting hitters away with just a 17% strikeout rate on the season.

Key Injuries: CL Jose Alvarado and OF Cristian Pache are out.
