There will be a Cinderella story in the World Series, it’s just a matter of who at this point. Philadelphia and San Diego both pulled off upsets in their respective National League Division Series, setting up a showdown in the NLCS beginning on Tuesday night. The Phillies knocked off the defending World Series champions (Braves) in four games, while San Diego beat this year’s favorite (Dodgers) in four games.

Philadelphia went through some disappointing stretches this season, failing to contend with the Mets and Braves in the NL East during the regular season. The Phillies got hot down the stretch, earning a spot in the NL Wild Card round. They made the most of that opportunity, taking out St. Louis in straight games. Their playoff run continued with three wins in four games against Atlanta, winning both of their home games over the weekend to knock out the defending champs. Philadelphia scored at least seven runs in all three of its NLDS games, including eight runs in the series clincher on Saturday.

The Phillies rank third out of the 12 playoff teams offensively, batting at a .237 clip. Designated hitter Bryce Harper leads the team with 10 hits and six RBIs, including three home runs. He is facing a San Diego pitching staff that is No. 5 this postseason with an ERA of 2.80. Right-handed pitcher Zack Wheeler is expected to start for Philadelphia on Tuesday. He has pitched in 12.1 innings this postseason, going 0-1 with a sparkling 2.19 ERA. Wheeler has been excellent against San Diego during his career, posting a 2.06 ERA and striking out 53 batters across seven appearances. He threw seven scoreless innings against San Diego in May, allowing four hits and no walks while striking out nine.
