Philadelphia will be looking to extend its three-game winning streak when it opens a three-game series in Miami on Tuesday night. The Phillies swept Washington over the weekend, further bolstering their playoff position. Miami lost the first game of its doubleheader with Texas on Monday—this story was published prior to the second game of that twin bill.
Philadelphia suffered a shocking three-game sweep at the hands of San Francisco to open the month of September, but the Phillies took care of business by winning five out of six games against Miami and Washington last week. Their lone loss came in the series finale against Miami, but they bounced back with a three-game sweep against Washington. Philadelphia scored at least five runs in all three of those contests. The Phillies are holding onto the second National League Wild Card spot, sitting 1.5 games ahead of San Diego and 3.5 games ahead of Milwaukee. Those three teams are expected to battle it out for the final two playoff spots.

The Phillies have been an outstanding offensive team this season, ranked eighth in the majors with a batting average of .256. Third baseman Alec Bohm leads the way with 147 hits, while right fielder Nick Castellanos has 132 hits. Left fielder Kyle Schwarber has hit a team-high 37 home runs. They are facing a Miami pitching staff that is No. 17 with an ERA of 3.96. Left-handed pitcher Bailey Falter is going to start for Philadelphia in this game. He allowed two runs on seven hits and no walks across 5.1 innings against Miami on Wednesday. Falter had his four-game streak of quality starts snapped, but he extended his winning streak to four. He has posted a 2.66 ERA over 23.2 innings during that stretch and is going to remain in the rotation at least until Zack Wheeler is ready to return.
