The Philadelphia Flyers lost to the Detroit Red Wings in a shootout on Friday, 7-6. That was the first contest of a five-game road trip. The Flyers are 10-4-3 on the road this season. The Flyers play on Thursday, but this preview was written prior to the conclusion of that game.

This was a wild contest that saw Detroit score five goals in the first to take a four-goal advantage, but Philadelphia battled back with two goals in the second and three in the third to force overtime. They eventually lost in the shootout. Five players had two points for Philadelphia and Owen Tippett scored his 12th goal of the season, giving him four points over his last five games, including three goals. The Flyers are 24th in goals per game (2.97).

Carter Hart gave up six goals on 37 shots. Hart had been very good (9-6-2, 2.62, .913) and he and Samuel Ersson (8-4-2, 2.56, .899) have been one of the best goaltending duos in the league, ninth in goals against average (2.75).  The penalty killing has been great, ranked fifth at 85.7%.
