A pair of teams from the Metropolitan Division coming off disappointing campaigns open their 2023-24 season on the ice in the Buckeye State. The Philadelphia Flyers are on the road as they make the trip to face the Columbus Blue Jackets Thursday night. Philadelphia finished the 2022-23 season 31-38-13 and was seventh in the Metropolitan Division as they missed the postseason. Columbus ended the 2022-23 campaign 25-48-9 and in the basement of the Metropolitan Division, missing the playoffs as well. In the last 10 meetings between the teams, the Flyers own a 6-3-1 advantage and have won the last two meetings. That includes a 4-3 overtime win at home in the most recent meeting on April 11.

I've hit more than 40 parlays in the last few months, totaling over $45,708 in that span. That includes nine wins since August 28 totaling $11,904! Looking for my Premium Picks? Don't miss out on another big payday! Click here to get a month of my parlays for only $50 (normally $100)!

Philadelphia struggled last season, finishing seventh in the Metropolitan Division with 75 points, 17 points behind the Panthers, who secured the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The Flyers missed the postseason for the third straight season and the youth movement seems to be in full swing. Philadelphia didn’t do a ton in free agency, inking Garnet Hathaway (Bruins), Marc Staal (Panthers), Victor Mete (Maple Leafs), Ryan Poehling (Penguins) and Rhett Gardner (Stars) to short term deals. Meanwhile, James van Riemsdyk (Boston) and Tony DeAngelo (buyout, signed with Carolina) are a pair of veterans that left town in the offseason.

The Flyers finished last season a dismal 29th in the league in goals per game as they averaged 2.68 goals per contest. Philadelphia was 23rd in the league in goals against as they surrendered an average of 3.37 goals a night last seas on. The Flyers were 32nd, or dead last, in the league in success with the man advantage as they converted just 15.6% of their power play opportunities last year. Philadelphia struggled on the penalty kill as well, ranking 26th in the league in that category by successfully navigating through 74.7% of their shorthanded situations on the year. Carter Hart, who made 55 appearances, 54 starts, last season for the Flyers, is expected to be between the pipes for this contest. He was 22-23-10 with a 2.94 GAA, a .907 save percentage and two shutouts on the year.
