Philadelphia Flyers (9-13-7) vs. Colorado Avalanche (14-10-2)

The 2022-23 NHL season continues Tuesday, December 13, with a huge 12-game card and brings plenty of interesting matchups, so we are breaking down the cross-conference showdown between the Philadelphia Flyers and Colorado Avalanche at Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado.

The puck drop is set for 9:30 PM ET. The Flyers open as +193 moneyline underdogs with a total of 6.0 goals, while the Avalanche sit at -216 odds to win straight up. These two foes meet for the second time this season, and Philadelphia stunned Colorado 5-3 as a -200 home dog on December 5.

The Philadelphia Flyers are on a three-game losing streak following Sunday’s 5-4 overtime defeat at the Arizona Coyotes. After a 4-1 home loss to the Washington Capitals and a 2-1 overtime defeat at the Vegas Golden Knights, the Flyers outshot the Yotes 41-29, but it wasn’t enough. Clayton Keller scored a hat trick for Arizona including a game-winner after 4:37 of play in overtime.

Morgan Frost, James van Riemsdyk, Owen Tippett, and Travis Konecny all found the back of the net last Sunday. Frost and van Riemsdyk accounted for three assists apiece, while Carter Hart yielded five goals on 29 shots.

Carter Hart has guarded the cage in seven straight contests. The 24-year-old netminder is now 8-8-6 with a 2.84 GAA and .909 save percentage in 2022-23. Felix Sandstrom, who’s 1-5-1 with a 2.72 GAA and .889 save percentage this season, might get a starting call Tuesday in Denver.

The Flyers surrender 3.28 goals per game (19th in the NHL) and score only 2.41 in a return (31st). They rank 29th in power-play percentage (14-for-86), 31st in shooting percentage (8.2%), and 30th in 5-on-5 high-d anger scoring chances.
