Philadelphia swept a home-and-home series from Pittsburgh as they downed the Penguins 2-1 in overtime Monday night in their previous game. Arizona stomped Washington 6-0 at home in their previous game Monday night. Philadelphia won their second straight game as they took down Pittsburgh at home to complete a home-and-home sweep of the two-game series. The Flyers entered Wednesday 13-10-2 on the season and were third in the Metropolitan Division, nine points behind the Rangers for the top spot in the division. Philadelphia comes into this game tied for 22nd in the league in scoring offense as they put up an average of 2.88 goals per game. The Flyers are 9th in the league in goals against as they give up 2.80 goals per contest. Philadelphia is 28th in power play success as they successfully convert on 12.2% of their opportunities with the man advantage. The Flyers are 6th in penalty killing as they have managed to navigate through 85.4% of their shorthanded situations on the year.

Against Pittsburgh Monday night, offense was hard to come by but the Flyers did enough to emerge with the victory. In the opening period of play, the Flyers were outshot 14-8 and trailed 1-0 on the scoreboard after 20 minutes of action. The second period saw Philadelphia with a 14-11 advantage in shots on goal and they tallied the lone goal of the stanza to tie the game at one at the second intermission. Tyson Foerster tied the game with his fifth goal of the season at 9:46 off assists from Travis Konecny and Rasmus Ristolainen. The third period saw the Flyers hold a 7-5 advantage in the stanza with neither team lighting the lamp. In overtime, Philadelphia held a 4-2 advantage in shots on goal and found the back of the net to earn the win. Sean Couturier tallied his sixth goal of the season at 3:55 off assists from Konecny and Travis Sanheim to give Philadelphia the triumph. Carter Hart made 31 saves for the Flyers, who held a 33-32 edge in shots on goal, in the victory. He is expected to be between the pipes for this contest.
