The Patriots, who selected QB Drake Maye with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, beat the Carolina Panthers 17-3 in their preseason opener Aug. 8. QB Bailey Zappe, who appeared in 10 games last season, had a team-high 108 passing yards on 12-of-20 passing. New England allowed just 124 passing yards but also played virtually no Panthers starters. It should see a bit more competitive action in Week 2.

The Eagles took down the Baltimore Ravens 16-13 in Week 1. QB Kenny Pickett, who was the starter for the Pittsburgh Steelers last season, went 14 for 22 and ended with 89 passing yards and a touchdown. The Eagles also had a stout defense, allowing a total of just 99 passing yards to Baltimore’s backup quarterbacks. Philadelphia 1st-round pick CB Quinyon Mitchell played some, but didn’t record a tackle.
