A pair of Eastern Conference teams take the floor in search of a win as they do battle down in the Sunshine State. The Philadelphia 76ers are on the road as they take on the Orlando Magic Wednesday night. Philadelphia came up a 119-113 loser on the road to Miami in South Beach on Christmas night Monday night, failing to cover as a two-point underdog. Orlando was in action on the road Tuesday night at Washington so they play the second game of a back-to-back here. The Magic downed the Pacers 117-110 on the road Saturday night in their previous contest, winning outright as a 2.5-point underdog. In the all-time regular season series between the teams, the Magic own an 80-49 advantage but the 76ers have won 11 of the last 12 meetings. That includes a 105-94 home win in the most recent matchup on February 1, 2023.

Philadelphia had won two straight and six of their previous seven games but ended up falling short against the Heat on the road on Christmas night without Joel Embiid. The 76ers fell to 20-9 overall and stood second in the Atlantic Division standings, three games behind the Celtics for the top spot. They were third in the Eastern Conference standings, 3.5 games ahead of seventh-place Cleveland to remain in a guaranteed playoff position. Against Miami, Philadelphia led by nine midway through the first quarter before getting outscored 14-1 to trail by four at the end of the stanza. The 76ers were down 14 at the half and by as many as 21 early in the third quarter before rallying to tie the game after three quarters. With the game tied at 99 with 6:13 to play, Philadelphia gave up a 9-2 run to trail by seven and couldn’t get closer than four the rest of the way. The 76ers shot 42.6% from the field, including 17 of 45 from three-point ra nge, and lost the rebounding battle 56-36 in the game. Tobias Harris led Philadelphia with 27 points, seven rebounds and six assists in the loss.

On the year, the 76ers are 4th in the league in scoring offense with 122 points per game. The 76ers are 9th in rebounding as they collect 44.9 rebounds per contest while they are 15th in assists by dishing out an average of 26 dimes a night. Nicolas Batum, Robert Covington, Paul Reed, Jaden Springer, Danuel House Jr., Furkan Korkmaz, Patrick Beverley, Marcus Morris Sr. and Mo Bamba are rotation pieces for coach Nick Nurse. Philadelphia is 9th in the league in field goal percentage as they shoot 48.3% from the floor as a team this season. The 76ers are 17th in threes per game as they drain 12.4 triples a contest while they are 4th in three-point shooting by connecting on 38.1% of their attempts from beyond the arc.

Batum (hamstring) missed the last three games while Embiid (ankle) was out on Monday night against Miami. Both players are questionable for this contest so watch for updates on their statuses heading toward tip-off.
