Pepperdine will try to split its season series with Santa Clara when the West Coast Conference foes square off on Thursday night. The Waves are coming off consecutive losses to San Francisco and No. 13 Gonzaga after beating Portland and BYU in their previous two games. Santa Clara is riding a five-game winning streak that includes a 103-84 win at Portland on Saturday.

Pepperdine got off to a solid start this season when it went 7-6 through its first 13 games, but it proceeded to lose 11 games in a row after that. The Waves’ losing streak included an 89-79 loss to Santa Clara on Jan. 5 in the first meeting between these teams. They were finally able to snap the skid with a double-overtime win against Portland earlier this month, and they followed it up with a 92-80 win over BYU. Their winning streak was halted in losses to San Francisco and Gonzaga, but they covered the spread in both of those games.

The Waves have been an average offensive team this season, ranked No. 156 in KenPom’s adjusted efficiency ratings. They are shooting 34.9% from 3-point range and are knocking down 51.4% of their 2-pointers, but they have a high turnover rate and a low offensive rebounding percentage. Santa Clara has been excellent on the defensive glass, but it ranks No. 212 in field goal percentage and No. 287 in turnover rate. Sophomore forward Maxwell Lewis leads Pepperdine with 17.6 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. Sophomore guard Houston Mallette is adding 13.7 points and 3.8 boards, while freshman forward Jevon Porter is averaging 12.1 points and 7.2 rebounds.
