The Pepperdine Waves and Gonzaga Bulldogs face off on Saturday in a college basketball showdown at the McCarthy Athletic Center. When these two teams faced off in February it was Gonzaga that secured the 86-66 victory.
Pepperdine comes into this game with a 7-7 record overall and they have gone 5-7 against the spread. In the last game against Iona, the defense wasn’t good giving up 76 points and that led to the 10 point defeat. Two games ago against George Washington, Pepperdine was able to secure the 81-70 victory. Pepperdine is averaging 77.9 points while their defense is giving up 73.8 points per game. The defense has been an issue, and needs to be better here. Forward Maxwell Lewis is averaging 19.4 points while shooting 53.3 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from behind the three point line.
On the other side of this matchup is Gonzaga wh sits with an 11-3 record but they have gone 3-9-1 against the spread. In the last game against Eastern Oregon, Gonzaga scored 142 points on the way to the victory. Two games ago against Montana, Gonzaga was able to secure the 85-75 victory. Gonzaga is averaging 85.1 points while their defense is giving up 71.5 points per game. Forward Drew Timme has been the top player for Gonzaga averaging 21.8 points while shooting 64.6 percent from the field. The defense hasn’t been good enough this season and it’s going to need to be better going forward.
