The New Orleans Pelicans and the Cleveland Cavaliers collide at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse on Monday night.
The New Orleans Pelicans have been in a rut as they’ve lost five of their last eight games overall, but they will be eager to build some momentum in this one after sneaking past the Pistons in a 116-110 road win on Friday. Jonas Valanciunas led the team with 33 points with 16 rebounds on 12 of 15 shooting, CJ McCollum and Trey Murphy each scored 19 points while Naji Marshall chipped in with 17 points on six of 11 shooting. As a team, the Pelicans shot 48 percent from the field and 11 of 31 from the 3-point line as they rode the hot hand of Valanciunas early in the contest build a 17-point lead, which proved to be just enough in the end as the Pistons rallied to cut the lead to just three points late int eh fourth quarter.
Meanwhile, the Cleveland Cavaliers have been in decent shape as they’ve won five of their last eight games overall, but they will be hoping to bounce back here after coming up short to the Mavericks in a 110-102 road loss on Saturday. Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen each scored 19 points, Darius Garland added 15 points while Donovan Mitchell chipped in with 14 points and six assists. As a team, the Cavaliers shot 48 percent from the field and eight of 28 from the 3-point line as they looked like they were in control after holding the Timberwolves to just 22 points in the second quarter to build a 14-point lead, but they couldn’t put the Timberwolves away and eventually got burned in the fourth quarter where they got outscored by 32-22 after leading for most of the game.
