It might only be preseason, but head coaches are in midseason form in terms of not sharing anything with the media. Check out this exchange between reporters and Giants head coach Brian Daboll from Wednesday, according to the press conference transcript at Giants.com.
Question: How many quarters do you intend to play the starters?
Daboll: We'll talk about that after.
Question: Do you intend to?
Daboll: We'll talk about it after.
Question: We're not going to talk about it after with you.
Daboll: I know but we are as a coaching staff. Just the same thing as durin g the regular season, that's what we'll do. We'll go through practice, meet with the medical staff, meet with the coaches and then make our decision.
While it's a bit silly that Daboll doesn't want to tip his hand, it likely means the starters are playing to some extent. Even if they didn't, the Giants have the advantage from a personnel standpoint.
After a brief stint from quarterback Tyrod Taylor in Week 1, Tommy Devito came in and stole the show by completing 15-of-24 passes for 155 yards and one touchdown. The potential combination of Daniel Jones, Taylor, and Devito could have their way against a Panthers defense that surrendered 207 yards and three touchdowns to the tandem of Zach Wilson and Tim Boyle.
Carolina has also confirmed that Andy Dalton won't be available again on Friday, and it's unlikely Bryce Young will be extended too much. That mean s Matt Corral will continue to see a bulk of the snaps under center for the Panthers.
