Against Edmonton, Ottawa was unable to slow down the Oilers’ attack and that proved to be their undoing in the loss. The opening period saw the Senators outshot by a 14-7 margin and they went to the dressing room down 1-0 after 20 minutes of play. In the second period, Ottawa was outshot 12-11 but they held a 3-2 advantage on the scoreboard to tie the game at three after two periods of play. Jake Sanderson knotted the game at one with his third goal of the season at the 21-second mark off assists from Mathieu Joseph and Brady Tkachuk. The Senators gave up a pair of goals to trail 3-1 before Claude Giroux made it a one-goal game with his 21st goal of the year, on the power play, at 15:35 off assists from Ridly Greig and Shane Pinto. Erik Brannstrom knotted the game at three with his first goal of the year at 17:58 with assists going to Alex DeBrincat and Nick Holden. In the third period, Ottawa was outshot 14-11 and outscored 3-0 to wind up with the loss. Anton Forsberg made 31 saves for the Senators in the loss before getting pulled. Mads Sogaard stopped all three shots he faced in relief for Ottawa, who was outshot 40-29, in the contest.

Forsberg tore the MCL in both knees against Edmonton February 11 and is expected to be done for the year. Kevin Mandolese was called up from the AHL and is expected to make his NHL debut here.
