The Ottawa Senators face the Colorado Avalanche with both teams heading in opposite directions this season. The Senators have an 11-16 record and with five losses in a row, they have the worst record in the Atlantic Division and became the recent team to replace their head coach. The Avalanche have a 19-11-2 record which is the second-best in the Central Division. Both teams look to rebound from rough losses and the upcoming game should be a good one as a result.

The Senators are having a season to forget despite their offense stepping up and scoring 3.33 goals per game. Tim Stutzle, Claude Giroux, and Drake Batherson have scored 25 goals and 53 assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense has stepped up as well. Brady Tkachuk, Mathieu Joseph, and Vladimir Tarasenko have combined for 26 goals and 33 assists while defensemen Jakob Chychrun and Jake Sanderson have added 10 goals and 28 assists from the point to open up the offense.

The offense has been great but the defense has been awful, allowing 3.44 goals per game including 23 goals in the last five games. Jake Sanderson and Erik Brannstrom have combined for 2.1 defensive point shares but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net with ease. In addition, goaltender Joonas Korpisalo has struggled with a .892 save percentage and a 3.54 goals-aga inst average on 548 shots with -6.1 goals saved above average.
