The Orlando Magic played a couple of games in the opening week. After a 116-86 thrashing of the Houston Rockets at home, the Magic began a four-game road trip with a 102-97 victory at the Portland Trail Blazers this past Friday.
Orlando nearly blew a double-digit lead at Moda Center in Portland. The Magic scored just 39 second-half points but held the Trail Blazers to 17 points in the fourth quarter. Orlando made 45.6% of its field goals (9-for-28 from downtown) and posted a 22/14 assist-to-turnover ratio while allowing only 15 assists to their rivals.
“I think today is one of those days where we can definitely learn from the last couple of minutes, but it definitely helps having been in those moments, and having a look at it in practice and on film, and seeing what decid es those close games,” Orlando forward Franz Wagner said.
Franz Wagner led the way for the Magic last Friday, tallying 23 points, five rebounds, and three assists in 35 minutes on the floor. Cole Anthony, who had 20 points in a season opener against Houston, dropped 18 points on Portland, while Paolo Banchero tortured the Trail Blazers for 14 points, seven boards, four assists, and a couple of steals.
