It’s the final game of the opening day of the Pac-12 Tournament with a first-round matchup on the hardwood in the city that never sleeps. The 11th-seeded Oregon State Beavers are the “road” team as they take on the sixth-seeded Arizona State Sun Devils in an effort to reach the quarterfinals Wednesday night. Oregon State knocked off Cal 69-66 at home in their regular season finale Saturday, though they failed to cover the line as a seven-point favorite. Arizona State was upended 68-65 on the road by USC in their regular season finale Saturday, though they did cover the line as a 4.5-point underdog. In the all-time series between the programs, the Sun Devils own a 53-44 advantage and have won the last four meetings. That includes a 68-57 home win in the most recent meeting February 2.

Oregon State snapped a four-game skid as they rallied to knock off Cal at home Saturday night in their regular season finale. The Beavers improved to 11-20 overall and finished 5-15 in the Pac-12 on the season as they look to pull an upset here to advance to the quarterfinals. Against Cal, Oregon State trailed 7-0 and 14-3 early, then found themselves down 32-16 with 3:44 to play in the first half. The Beavers rallied to cut the margin to eight at intermission and led by as many as three in the second half. Oregon State trailed by one with 28 seconds remaining but scored the game’s final four points to earn the win. The Beavers shot 42.6% from the field, including five of 13 from three-point range, and hit 24 of 29 free throws in the contest. Glenn Taylor Jr. led Oregon State with 28 points off the bench in the win.
The Beavers are putting up an average of 61.4 points per game this season, pu tting them 357th in the nation in scoring offense. Oregon State is weak on the glass, collecting an average of 31 rebounds per contest, and dishes out 10.2 assists per game. The Beavers are 92nd in scoring defense by allowing 67.1 points a game. Jordan Pope leads the team and is one of two players averaging in double figures with 12.6 points per game. Glenn Taylor Jr. (11.4 points, 3.6 rebounds) is the team’s best secondary scoring option. Dexter Akanno, Tyler Bilodeau, Michael Rataj, Dzmitry Ryuny, Rodrigue Andela, Christian Wright and Jayden Stevens are other rotation components for coach Wayne Tinkle. Oregon State shoots 41.3% from the floor as a team on the year. The Beavers connect on 6.1 three-pointers a night while shooting 32.2% from beyond the arc. Oregon State has been excellent at the charity stripe as they cash in a solid 75% of their chances on the year.
