Two teams with strong records meet in Big 12 play when the #9 Oklahoma Sooners (13-1, 1-0 Big 12) travel to take on the TCU Horned Frogs (11-3, 0-1 Big 12) on Wednesday. Oklahoma won a home game in their league opener, defeating Iowa State 71-63 and covering the 2.5-point spread as favorites. TCU took on the tall task of going to #3 Kansas for their first game, keeping it closer than expected but ultimately losing 83-81 as 8.5-point underdogs. These teams split their two matchups last season, with each team winning on their home floor. The Oklahoma Sooners have a strong resume coming into conference play, they have defeated some strong programs in Iowa, USC, Providence and Arkansas. Their only loss came to #11 North Carolina in a neutral site game. The Sooners are still ranked just 9th in the AP Poll, and five teams ahead of them have more losses. Oklahoma can only control what is in front of them, and they have a big opportunity to pick up a victory on the road against an 11-3 team in TCU. In their last game, Oklahoma was led by guard Javian McCollum with 15 points in the win over Iowa State.
The Sooners are led in scoring by two guards, the top scorer is 6'5 Otega Oweh averaging 14.9 PPG and 3.9 RPG in his sophomore season. Oweh had a 23 point game in their lone loss to UNC, but struggled in the conference opener as he only took two shots from the field and finished with eight points that all came on free throws. The other s corer is 6'2 point Javian McCollum, he is averaging 14.7 PPG and 3.9 APG. He is their top shooter on the team with 32 made threes on 38.1% shooting from deep. McCollum has scored double figures in his last four, including a 23-point game in the win over Central Arkansas. The Sooners have balanced scoring behind their top two, six players average between 6.4 PPG and 9.2 PPG, led by 6'7 forward Jalon Moore, and 6'10 forward John Hughley IV who each average 9.2.
