Oklahoma vs. Iowa State Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 2-25-2023

Oklahoma will try to split its season series with No. 23 Iowa State when the Big 12 foes meet on Feb. 25. The Sooners have lost six of their last seven games, including a 74-63 setback against Texas Tech on Tuesday. Iowa State has dropped four of its last five games, so it is trying to avoid falling further in the NCAA Tournament projections.

Oklahoma got off to a fast start this season when it won nine of its first 12 games, but it has not held up in Big 12 play. The Sooners have lost 12 of their 15 games against conference opponents, with one of their two wins since mid-January coming in an upset win over then-No. 2 Alabama at the end of January. They have lost six of their seven games since then, with their most recent setback coming against Texas Tech at home on Tuesday night. Oklahoma lost four straight league games by a combined 75 points in its games following the win over Alabama, but it has been more competitive in its three games since then.

The Sooners have relied too heavily on hot shooting to win games this season, as they rank No. 61 in effective field goal percentage (53.0). They have been terrible in other key categories, ranked No. 287 in turnover rate and No. 321 in offensive rebounding percentage. Oklahoma also struggles to get to the charity stripe, sitting at No. 239 in free throw rate. The Sooners are facing an Iowa State defense that ranks second in turnover rate and eighth in adjusted efficiency. Senior guard Grant Sherfield leads Oklahoma with 16.5 points, 3.4 assists and 2.6 rebounds per game. Jalen Hill (10.4) and Tanner Groves (10.0) are both scoring in double figures as well.
