A pair of Western Conference teams take to the hardwood looking to earn a victory in the Valley of the Sun. The Oklahoma City Thunder are on the road as they make the trip west to take on the Phoenix Suns Sunday night. Oklahoma City comes in off a 105-98 road loss to Sacramento in their previous contest, losing outright as a 1.5-point favorite, Friday night. Phoenix dropped a 122-119 decision at home to the Lakers Friday night in their previous game Friday night, losing outright as a two-point favorite. In the all-time regular season series between the teams, the Suns own a 136-117 advantage and took three of the four meetings last season. That includes a 128-118 road win in the most recent matchup on April 2, 2023.

Oklahoma City saw their two-game win streak snapped as they were taken down by Sacramento on the road Friday night. The Thunder dropped to 5-4 on the season and stood third in the Northwest Division, three games behind the Nuggets for the top spot. Against Sacramento, Oklahoma City dug themselves a 14-point hole after the opening quarter and was forced to try and play catchup the rest of the way. The Thunder trailed by as many as 17 in the second quarter and got within two at 69-67 with 1:11 to play in the third quarter, though they couldn’t even the score the rest of the way. Oklahoma City shot 44.8% from the field, including seven of 30 from three-point range, and lost the rebounding battle by a 52-38 margin. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the Thunder with 33 points, seven rebounds and six assists in the loss.

This season, the Thunder are 9th in the league in scoring offense as they average 116.4 points per game on the year. Oklahoma City is 25th in rebounding with 41.3 boards per contest while they are 24th in assists with 24 dimes a night. The Thunder are 21st in the league in scoring defense as they allow an average of 115.8 points a night. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander leads the team with 28.8 points, seven rebounds and 6.4 assists per contest. Luguentz Dort is the most reliable secondary scoring option with 14.3 points per game. The Thunder look to Josh Giddey (12.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, 4.6 assists), Chet Holmgren (16.2 points, 7.8 rebounds), Cason Wallace (8.7 points) and Tre Mann as other secondary scoring options. Aleksej Pokusevski, Jalen Williams (16.4 points), Ousmane Dieng, Kenrich Williams, Davis Bertans and Aaron Wiggins have to be contributors if they hope to have success. Oklahoma City is 3rd in the league in field goal percentage as they shoot 49% from the floor as a team on the year. The Thunder are 19th by hitting 11.8 threes per game and 7th in three-point shooting by hitting 37.6% of their attempts from beyond the arc.

Kenrich Williams (back) remained out Friday and has missed the first nine games of the season. He still has no timetable for his return.
