Oilers vs. Panthers Prediction & Odds Game 5: Stanley Cup Final Expert Picksiv class=”bodyContent col-lg-9 mb-3″>

The Edmonton Oilers took a lot of pent-up frustration out on the Florida Panthers in their 8-1 Game 4 win and hope the start of what would be a famous comeback will continue in Tuesday's Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final, as we offer our best Oilers vs. Panthers prediction based the top NHL odds.

The Edmonton Oilers are not dead and buried yet; far from it if Saturday's Game 4 romp was anything to go by.

The Florida Panthers allowed eight goals in the playoffs for the first time since losing 9-3 in Game 5 of the 2023 Stanley Cup Final when the trophy was handed to the Vegas Golden Knights.

Despite the shellacking, the Panthers return home for Game 5 on Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET as the favorites to win and secure their first Stanley Cup. With their 3-1 commanding series lead, the Panthers are still massive Stanley Cup odds favorites.

Her e is our Oilers vs. Panthers prediction and our NHL picks for Game 5.

Well, that was something.

Game 4 felt like a much-needed release for the Oilers, who, aside from a few egregious mistakes, played two excellent hockey games in Games 1 and 3 but had nothing to show for it. They finally got the win they deserved in Game 4, bombarding Sergei Bobrovsky and the Florida Panthers to the tune of eight goals.

Bobrovsky was yanked after allowing the fifth Oilers goal just five minutes into the second period. It was the first time Bobrovsky was relieved of his duties in the 2024 playoffs.

Game 4 marked the fourth time in the 2024 playoffs that Bobrovsky has allowed five or more goals. He won all three follow-up games thus far, allowing one goal twice and two once. His save percentage in those games was .969, .933, and .913, respectively. A bounce-back game from the Conn Smythe odds' favorite is about as probable as the Boston Celtics winning the NBA Finals.

Paul Maurice's team needs to play a defensively sound style and system for success. Their record in the playoffs is indicative of such. They are 5-4 in Overs and 10-2 in Unders during the 2024 postseason. At home, the Panthers have won four in a row. Unsurprisingly, all of those games had five or fewer goals.

The Under hit in five of their previous six games at Amerant Bank Arena. The only exception resulted in a 5-4 overtime loss to the New York Rangers in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Final. That outlier was eery from the onset, with the 3 p.m. ET puck drop leading to a nine-goal explosion.

Seven of 11 games at Amerant Bank Arena had five or fewer goals. Besides three Overs in a row – Game 6 of the first round and Games 1 and 2 of the second round – seven of eight hit the Under.

The contrast between the Oilers at Rogers Place and in enemy rinks couldn't be more stark. Whether due to not having the last change, battling an inferior ice surface, playing more cautiously, or combatting the influence of hostile fan bases, the Oilers are on a run of seven straight road Unders. That includes scoring just one goal in two Stanley Cup Final visits to Amerant Bank Arena.

Eight of their 11 away playoff games ended with five goals or fewer. Considering what's at stake, I don't expect a flurry of goals from either team in Game 5.

Stuart Skinner should be at his best, while the Panthers will be equal parts angry, focused, and determined to not only avenge their humiliating Game 4 defeat but to finish the series and avoid the prospect of returning to Edmonton for what would be an extremely tricky and uncomfortable Game 6.
