The Ohio Bobcats evened both their overall record to .500 (3-3) and their conference record to .500 (1-1) with a 55-34 win over Akron last Saturday. The Bobcats jumped out to a 14-0 lead after the end of the first quarter and built their lead to 28-13 en route to an easy home victory. The game started off with a bang as quarterback Kurtis Rourke hit senior wide receiver Sam Wiglusz with a 75-yard touchdown on the game's first play.

“The first play of the game was the best way to start the game,” said Wiglusz to reporters after the win. “We got a couple plays that we know we were going to get a chance to call out if we got the right look. It could not have played out much better and it really got us off to a hot start, so it felt great.”

QB Rourke had a huge day, completing 24-of-27 passes for 427 yards and three touchdowns. Wiglusz led the receivers with 144 yards receiving, a career-high, a nd two touchdowns. Running back Sieh Bangura chipped in with 90 yards rushing, 25 yards receiving and a game-high four touchdowns. On the day, the Bobcats had a whopping 561 yards of total offense while not turning the ball over at all.

On the defensive side of the ball, linebacker Keye Thompson led the way with 11 tackles and had the team's only interception. Defensive end Jack McCrory also had a big afternoon with fumble recovery that he turned into the team's second defensive touchdown of the season. Ohio had 10 tackles for loss and three sacks in the game and surrendered 478 yards of total offense along with the two turnovers forced.

Ohio, at just .500 on the season, has been a more offensive-centric team thus far on the season. Overall, the Bobcats are ranked 61st in the nation in scoring offense. On the ground, Ohio has not been effective as they rank just 109th in the country in rushing offense. Through the air, however, the Bobcats have been very effective. They rank 22nd in the country in passing offense this season through six games. They have been above average in turnover differential, ranking 39th in the country. Defensively, the Bobcats have struggled. They are 119th in defensive scoring this season and have struggled against both the pass and the run. Ohio ranks 119th against the run and an even more pitiful 131st against the pass. The Bobcats win by outscoring the opposition, not by shutting them down.
