Both Ohio State and Notre Dame enter this clash as top-10 undefeated teams. But in terms of confidence in the performance of either under the lights in South Bend, the home team is easier to like based on what we've seen so far.
The Buckeyes scored just 23 points in the Week 1 opener as the offense didn't do enough at Indiana to cover the spread against the Hoosiers. That was before Ryan Day named Kyle McCord the starter for the season, and McCord has since responded by handling his business appropriately in wins over Youngstown State and Western Kentucky. But we didn't learn a thing about McCord under pressure from those games. McCord's line at Indiana: 20-of-33, 239 yards, 0 touchdowns, 1 interception.
Notre Dame transfer quarterback Sam Hartman, on the other hand, has had the Irish offense humming regardless of opponent or venue. Notre Dame ranks inside the FBS top 10 in scoring average at 42.7 PPG.
The Irish have not scored below 40 points in a game this season en route to a 3-1 against the spread record. Their offensive efficiency ranks fourth in the nation. Though Ohio State is the toughest defense the Irish will have seen to this point, we're trusting Hartman to keep up his recent pace at home.
